We are taking time during the long wake of the pandemic to critically examine our programming – including the Alternative Breaks Program – to ensure that is the case. As a result, this long-standing tradition will be on pause as we explore and reimagine the ways that SLiCE’s Service-Learning experiences can and should be conducted. Explicitly, we intend to double down on Alt Breaks’s commitment to critical examination of root causes, authentic and mutually beneficial relationships, and fostering civic engagement for all participants. Participants provide service in exchange for education about current social and cultural issues facing the host communities. Participants travel for one week during school breaks (spring, winter) and volunteer for nonprofit and government agencies across the country and world. A terrific opportunity to learn about social issues and meet other students with the same passions.
